Electrification of the Wellington rail network up to Waikanae means KiwiRail have to decide whether or not to continue the only commuter rail service between Palmerston North and Wellington.

What's Happening
The new metro service is expected to begin in early 2011. KiwiRail has agreed to run the Capital Connection alongside the new service for at least 6 months to test passangers' response.
